Presents From Canada

When my mother-in-law left for Toronto last Sept, Ashley did not ask for her mah mah when she was not around. Whenever we asked her where mah mah is, Ashley would reply, "Tolonto" :D Ever since MIL came back on Monday, Ashley has been sticking to her like glue. She wants her mah mah to sit down with her and play with her. Then when she woke up from her nap yesterday, the first thing she asked was where her mah mah is :) I wonder what would happen when my MIL goes back in 3 weeks time.

My MIL and SIL bought some clothes & toys for Ashley. Here's her loot :-

Lovely tops

Denims

Roots Tshirt from 2nd Aunt

A McDonalds Fan

Ashley doesn't like any meat and would spat them out whenever she comes across them. Picky picky! However, she loves the nuggets at McDonalds *slaps forehead*. I won't let her eat them often though.....only twice a month ;) Recently when her daddy was having some, she quickly grabbed one and even dipped it into the barbecue sauce. I thought she would spit it out because of the strong barbecue sauce but to my surprised, she liked it. Man, she kept eating and dipping into the sauce that she almost finished the whole box of barbecue sauce. She didn't even want her usual favourite - ketchup!

Ooo...I love the sauce, I love the sauce

hmmmm.....i must get this sauce again next time

Unbalanced Hormones

My cousin has a problem with her irregular periods. This has happened for a few months already and her gynae informed her that it is due to unbalanced hormones. One of the causes of unbalanced hormones is stress. My cousin has also been putting a lot of weight over the last 2 years and according to the gynae, she has to lose some weight by doing some exercise. Rapid weight gain is also one of the causes of unbalanced hormones. Since she does not have time to exercise, my cousin is thinking of taking some diet pills to lose some weight. She is now looking for more information on the best diet pills in the market to help her in her weight loss journey. I hope she will be able to achieve her ideal weight soon and her periods be back to normal.

A Different Kind Of Mosquito Spray

I received an email today regarding the use of Listerine as mosquito spray. Yeah..you heard right....the mouth wash as mosquito spray. Don't know how true that is but no harm trying :D Here is the content of the email I received.

Mosquito Spray...Worth a try I was at a deck party awhile back, and the bugs were having a ball biting everyone. A man at the party sprayed the lawn and deck floor with Listerine, and the little demons disappeared. The next year I filled a 4-ounce spray bottle and used it around my seat whenever I saw mosquitoes. And voila! That worked as well. It worked at a picnic where we sprayed the area around the food table, the children's swing area, and the standing water nearby. During the summer, I don't leave home without it.

OUR FRIEND'S COMMENTS: I tried this on my deck and around all of my doors. It works - in fact, it killed them instantly. I bought my bottle from Target and it cost me $1.89. It really doesn't take much, and it is a big bottle, too; so it is not as expensive to use as the can of Bug-spray you buy that doesn't last 30 minutes. So, try this, please. It will last a couple of days. Don't spray directly on a wood door (like your front door), but spray around the frame. Spray around the window frames, and even inside the dog house

I'm going to the pharmacy to get myself a bottle of Listerine soon :D My house will definitely smell minty. Wonder if it would attract ants instead :(

Elaine did this meme on a Friday (yesterday) and named it Fabulous Friday Meme. However, since today is Saturday, I'll just change the name a bit. Ok Elaine? Actually I was up till quite late yesterday but I didn't blog hop so I didn't know you have tagged me until now...hehehehehe.

Here are the 5 questions :-

DO YOU PREFER…

1. To watch or participate? I prefer to Watch. Don't like to talk much unless I'm with closed friends.

2. Malls, catalog shopping, or the Internet? I'm a Shopping Queen. Malls, catalog or internet is fine with me.

3. A bath or shower? Of course the answer is shower. Where got time to relax with a slow bath.

4. To talk to people by telephone, in person or by e-mail? I perfer telephone or email.

Easy peasy meme eh? Not tagging anyone since it's the weekend :)

Not Done Yet

It has been 48 hours since I posted about not having enough time to some housework. So, did I get any work done? The answer is NO. Don't know what's wrong with me but just so many other things to do. Wish I am more organised. There are a few boxes in the kitchen which I have yet to unpack since we moved into the house like 4 months ago. Can you believe that? Besides the boxes, let's see what I haven't done in the kitchen since we moved in.........clean the fridge, wipe the kitchen cabinets, clean the kitchen fan and the cooker hood. I am such a slacker:( Well, I feel a bit better after seeing the sign below ;)

Maybe I should just stay off the kitchen for a while....hehehehhehe. Ok, got to start wiping the dust off the teak furniture. In-laws arriving in 2 days time.

Close Encounter With Stinky Again

Here I am, sitting in front of my computer, trying to think of what to write on used cisco but I just can't come up with anything. I am having a headache now because tonight is the Night Market in my neighbourhood. This means I can smell the stinky tofu in the air again. That's why I developed a headache. Eventhough the sliding door and the main door are closed, I can still smell it. I rubbed so much medicated oil on my nose that it became numb. Now I smell like a walking medicated oil bottle :( Have to bear with this until 10.30pm when the stinky tofu stall closed. Urrrgggghhhhh!

Here is a glimpse of the fermented beancurd (pic taken from unbelievablefacts.info)

Something For The Eyes

My mom always see me sitting in front of the computer for long hours and say that it is very bad for my eyes. So yesterday, she boiled this drink for me which helps to strengthen the eyes and prevent cataracts. This drink consists of red dates, kei jie and some kind of plant. I have heard of kei jie being good for the eyes but never heard of this plant before. My mum said the vegetable seller at the market taught her how to boil this plant with the dates and kei jie. Just put everything into a big pot of water. May add "mut cho" if you like it sweet. Otherwise, just drink it plain. Boil for an hour or so and it's ready to drink. Mum said she's going to boil more often since I stare at the computer a lot :D Well, it's also good for her as she has mild cataract on both eyes ;)

the green plant...looks like baby spinach to me

So much to do

and so little time. I just realised that I have yet to

  • wipe the cupboards in all the rooms

  • change the bedsheets in the guest room

  • scrub the tiles in the bathrooms

  • clean all the fans in the house
I could see a layer of black dust on the blades of the fan in the living room. *atchoo* I better start doing some serious cleaning because my in-laws are arriving next week. Don't want them to see the house in a mess ;)

In case you are wondering........ that's not me in the photo though I wish I've got her figure ;)

Bagels Again

I found another place that sell my favourite bagels. It's Meidi-Ya bakery. I was at Mid Valley over the weekend and as usual, I checked out the bakeries to curb my carbs craving :D I was delighted to see a variety of bagels such as poppy seeds, cinnamon and raisins. I bought 4 bagels that day. However, I am a tad disappointed as they were not fresh. They were also chewy and I had to drink lots of water when eating them :( Sigh....I should get my in-laws to bring some back for me from Toronto since they are coming back next week.

.

The Purple Dinosaur & Friends

Been looking around for the Barney bedsheets ever since I saw it at Healthfreakmommy's blog. She told me that her mom bought the bedsheet from Ipoh. So, when my mom went back to Ipoh, I asked her to keep a lookout for me. However she couldn't find it there but last week, she saw this bedsheet being sold at the market in our area. The Barney bedsheet came in two different background colours i.e. yellow and green. Of course this is not the original one but it's good enough :D Cost RM15 for single. Not bad eh? I changed Ashley's bedsheet to this one a few days ago and she was ecstatic to see the purple dinosaur and his friends on her bed :D

MP Steamboat Restaurant

Recently when we were back in Ipoh, we wanted to try this steamboat place called MP Steamboat in Greentown. I have read about this place from a few blogs and my friend also recommended that we give it a try. It was a huge restaurant and well decorated. As soon as entered the restaurant, a waitress came and showed us to the table which is a sofa-sitting type. When I asked for a babychair for Ashley, the waitress kept insisting that the sofa chairs are high enough and I don't need a babychair. I told her that I need a babychair for Ashley as it is easier for me to feed her but she refused to bring one. So, I told her I would prefer a different table with normal chairs so that I can put a highchair at the table. However she said all the tables were not available eventhough they were empty. My husband was furious and told us to leave the restaurant. He didn't want us to waste any time talking to such an uncooperative waitress. Perhaps she should undergo a corporate performance management course. With such an attitude, she would drive customers away. So on that day, we ended up at our favourite food court for dinner. I hope other customers did not experience what we have gone through.

Mortgage Calculator

Owning a home is a dream to many people. Everyone wants his or her own place when they can put up their feet and call home. Buying a home is the largest transactions that most people make in their life. It can be a tricky and confusing process especially if you are a first time buyer. The next step after buying a home is to look for a mortgage. A mortgage is a sum of money that home buyers get from the banks or other lenders. There are many mortgage options available these days and it is sometimes difficult to choose the right one. If you are ready to take the plunge and would like to find out more information on this topic, there are many online resources available to assist you in your search. What you can afford depends on your income, credit rating, current monthly expenses, downpayment and the interest rate.

You can go to this website called mlcalc.com. They have a calculator tool which can help you to check how much mortgage is payable. You have the option to select whether you want to see your mortgage payment schedul on a yearly or monthly basis. This result include principal, interest, tax, insurance and Private Mortgage Insurance. Mclcalc.com also has a loan calculator to help those who want to know how much loan they are qualified for and how much is the monthly loan payable. Their website is very simple to use and straightforward. Just hop over and check it out today.

So, do you LIKE ....

I was at The Curve yesterday and while lining up for my order at Starbucks, two young ladies came and stood behind me. They looked like they were in their early twenties. Both of them were chatting out loud (so I wasn't eavesdropping) and their conversation was about another girl ;) One of them was speaking with an accent (probably just came back from overseas or has been watching too many American movies) and she was the one talking non-stop. Very loudly. Throughout the conversation, she kept saying, "LIKE you know" "I mean LIKE", "She could be LIKE", "It's so LIKE". I was like, aarrrggghhhhhhhhh....Enough already!!! In less than 5 minutes, she had used that word more than 10 times. Reminds me of those movies where some cheerleaders or popular girls in school would speak like that. So irritating you know. It is so obvious that she's trying to imitate the caucasians with her fake accent. Gee, if I wasn't queuing for my frappuccino, I would have walked away. If ever my kid were to speak like that, I'll tape her mouth shut.

No More Heartburn

When I experienced severe heartburn about 2 months ago, my doctor advised me to watch my diet and also do some exercise. The doctor said that regular exercise promotes the movement of food out of the stomach. So, I started going for jogs in the morning and evening too. However, since the rainy season started a few weeks ago, I have not been able to jog in the evening. The sky becomes dark and start to rain every day around 4pm. I think I should get an ellipticals in the house so that I can still exercise. So far, my heartburn is gone and I really believe exercising and dieting help.

Rain oh Rain

It's the rainy season now and without fail, every evening around 4pm, the sky would turn dark and gloomy. Then comes heavy rain with lighting and thunder. It's good to have rain sometimes but every day is a bit too much eh? I think the only species not complaining about the rain is the mosquitoes. These little buggers thrive in wet rainy season :( There are just so many mosquitoes around my house these days. I'm obssessed in trying to prevent Ashley from being bitten by using the spray on her clothes and also rubbing the insect repellent stick on her legs and arms. Call me crazy but I really don't want her to get bitten anymore. Her legs are full of scars. Those pesky mozzies seem to love Ashley a lot and kept attacking her *pulls hair* These are the 2 things I use every day :-

Got them from Guardian. So far, they are effective in getting rid of mosquitoes.

A Nice Little Dress

Aunty Shannon bought me a lovely green dress for my coming 3rd birthday. The dress fits me perfectly and I like it very much. The flowers on the dress is lovely and I also like the ribbon behind the dress. Thank you very much Aunty Shannon. You are so kind and thoughtful. I want to wear it every day after I have my bath but mommy said I can only wear it when we go *gai gai*. I just can't wait to go out and wear my nice little dress again.

What do you think? Nice?

It's Thursday Night Again

This also means today is pasar malam at our place. It rained heavily this evening and I thought the Pasar Malam won't be opened. However, the rain stopped after an hour of downpour. I went out to buy some food and walked around a bit. Most of the stalls were just starting to open and I saw a new vendor there selling magnifying glasses of all sizes. I guess if my husband was with me, he would have stopped to buy a few. He has a thing for magnifying glasses and torch lights. Don't ask me why. I also walked past the stall that sell stinky tofu. Luckily my nose was blocked from all the sneezing today. If not, I'll be able to smell the stinky tofu and develop a headache.

Ashley's favourite ;)

A few days ago, it was reported in The Star that a Malaysian child prodigy, Adi Putra Abdul Ghani could read the newspapers at the age of three. Wow, it really is amazing and I am sure his parents must have been blown away by their young son's exceptional talent. If Ashley suddenly could read out something from the papers to me, I think I'll be so shocked that I would need to sit down and steady myself :D Do I want my child to be a genius? Nah. As long as she is healthy and obedient, I'm happy. These days, Ashley just loves to flip the newspaper and point out the logos that she is familiar with like Digi, Maybank, McD, KFC, Starbucks and etc ;) Then she'll show me her black fingers from turning all the pages :D

What's this, mommy?

Going On A Low Carb Diet

I lost some weight last year when I started eating salads for lunch and soup for dinner. However, after a few months, I slacked off and the weight I lost came back. Now, I am trying to drop a few pounds by jogging and also going for low carb diet like Dr. Atkins Diet. I heard that it is a very effective and good way to lose weight. I have been surfing the internet to look for some Low Carb recipes and stumbled upon low-carb-diet-recipes.com. This website has a vast collection of low carb recipes including my favourite food, pasta. Besides recipes, there are many useful topics regarding low carb diet such as how it works, cholesterol, meal plan for 7 days and more. Low-Carb-Recipes.com is definitely a great resource for low carb dieters like me. Wish me luck as I embark on this new weight loss program :D

The Energizer Bunny

We went to visit my dad at his office this afternoon. As usual, Ashley had a fun time playing with the things in the drawers, pretending to talk on the telephone and scribbled all over my dad's diary. She also sang and run around the office. I always wonder where she gets the energy from. Always so active even at home. She doesn't sit still too, unless she's watching her favourite programme on tv. Today she only napped about 30 mins in the car and yet she doesn't feel tired when we reached my dad's office. She is in bed now as I am typing this. I can hear her snoring .....muhahaaahahaha.

International Phone Cards

My husband has two brothers living in Canada. Besides emailing each other, they also call each other about once a month using the computer chat to keep in touch. However, the line is not very clear sometimes and it is really difficult to talk with one another. Last year, my mother-in-law has also moved to Canada to be with her other sons. Of course my husband has been calling his mother often and he is finding it extremely difficult to chat with her due to the bad connection. Sometimes when the internet line is down, which happens rather often over at our place, my husband is not able to call his mother.

My husband has decided to stop using the computer to call his family. He is now planning to call them via the phone and the best way is to get a phone card. By using a phone card, he can save money on the phone bill. It is also very convenient as not only can he call from home, he can make the call from his mobile phone or office too. There are a variety of international calling cards available and searching for one with the best deals is not an easy task. Thank God for PhoneCardsAvenue.com. This website specialises in cheap online phone cards and calling cards. They know how frustrating it is to shop for phone cards or calling cards. Therefore, they have compiled a list of international phone cards and calling cards which offer great voice quality and value. It is also very convenient to buy phone cards from them as everything can be done from the comfort of our home. We just have to check the best rates offered by the various phone card companies, select the card, check out through their secure server and get the calling card.

Another great thing about PhoneCardsAvenue.com is that besides offering the best savings, they also offer a 3% cash back rebate scheme which allows the buyers to save 3% on every card purchases from them. So, if you are also in the market for cheap and quality phone cards or calling cards, do check out the great selection at PhoneCardsAvenue.com.

Dora The Explorer

Ashley was not very into Dora The Explorer. There used to be Dora on Playhouse Disney but maybe she was too young to understand then. Recently, my friend, WL, gave Ashley a Dora vcd. After watching this series which has lots of singing and music, she enjoys it very much. She wants to watch Dora every day now :D She's even learning how to speak a bit of Spanish words ....hahahahahaah.

We bought her a Dora doll last year which would sing and shake when we press the button on her shoe. Ashley was soooo afraid of it that we kept it. I guess I better take out the doll now and see if she'll play with it.

Coca-Cola Chicken

When we were at Coffee Beans some time back, I was reading a magazine and stumbled upon a recipe for Coca-Cola Chicken. Looks real easy. I told my mum about it and she said she'll try to cook it one day :D Ahhhhh....now you know I don't cook at home. My mum does all the cooking ;) Actually all of us don't eat rice so mum just boil soup or fry some vegetables and another meat dish. Ok....back to the coca-cola chicken. All we need is a can of Coke, some salt, sugar and chicken wings. According to the recipes, we just need to marinate the chicken wings with some salt. Then heat up the wok, add the chicken in and cook for a while. Then add the can of coke in when the chicken is almost done. Simple eh? Will take a pic when my mum cook this dish. Stay tune.

My Plants

I love leafy plants and have been buying them for the house. There is no garden in my house so I bought potted plants from the nursery. I only buy green leafy plants because I love the shades of green in them. My mum also shares my love for these plants and she has a green thumb too. Mum is the one taking care of these plants :D She would water them every day and would leave some of them further out at the porch at night to get some dewdrops. Hmmm...I do wonder if plants really need dewdrops? Here are some of the plants I have. Plan to get more soon :D

So Typical

My husband was extra helpful tonight. He even played with Ashley a lot. Not that he doesn't do all these things on a normal day but tonight, he was pretty hardworking *chuckle* Well, actually he does help around the house like bringing out the trash every night, washing the bottle, mopping the floor and all. These are the things that are in his "schedule" so he knows he has to do them :D He also play with his princess too but he would sometimes sneak into his room and play games or surf the net. Well, let's just say that tonight he did things without me telling him what to do. Why? Cos his buddies called him earlier and they are going out for some drinks later. Ahhhhhh.....Men!! When they are extra nice, we women know that they are up to something ;)

Papaya Soup

I have heard so much about the papaya soup but never tasted it before. My mum decided to cook it yesterday. She bought a raw papaya, pork bones, red dates and peanuts to cook the soup. First she cut the papaya into small cubes and blanched the pork bones in boiling water. Then she put some water into a large pot and add all the ingredients into it. Once the pot is boiled, she lowered the heat to medium and let it simmer for 2 hours. Add some salt into the soup and serve hot. Very delicious :D

I Think She Looks Good In Black

Last Thursday night, I was home alone with Ashley as my mum was in Ipoh and my husband has gone for his martial arts class. After playing with her for a while, I left her alone to play and I sat in front of my computer. After about 10 minutes, I turned and saw this -

Ashley was putting on my underwear!!! I have folded a pile of underwear and left them on the sofa. This cheeky monkey took one and tried to put it on.

She had put both legs into one hole....muhahahaahahahha

When she saw me taking photos of her, she quickly grabbed her camera and took some shots of me too :D

Boo Hoo.....

We didn't go to the park today because it rained the whole morning from 3am until 7am. What a bummer! My mum said the playground would wet and muddy after the rain so we decided not to go today.Last night, I was telling Ashley that we would have to wake up early today so that she could play at her favourite slide with the other children. Her eyes lit up when I mentioned slides and children :D Luckily Ashley forgot about it when she woke up today. Instead we took her to the market and she was all happy about it. Hopefully we can drop by the park next Sunday morning :D

New Discovery

My hubby went to the PC fair today at the KL Convention Centre and I followed him as I wanted to do some shopping. Of course the nearest mall is the Suria KLCC and that's where I went today :D It was nice being able to spend some time at the mall alone. Ashley stayed at home with my mum today. I had a pleasant surprise when I was at the Sun Moulin bakery inside Isetan. I saw these -

Bagels!!!! This is the first time I see bagels being sold at a bakery. I don't know what is it about bagels but I can never resist buying them. I fell in love with bagels when I was staying in Toronto. The best that I have tasted were from Montreal, the purveyor of top quality bagels. Ahhh......eating them brings back memories of Canada :D

There were a few varieties such as Poppy Seed, Raisins & Cinnamon, Cranberry and the original at Sun Moulin. I bought one of each for breakfast tomorrow ;) However, I forgot to buy some cream cheese *slap forehead*

Dinner At One Utama

We went to One Utama yesterday evening after visiting my dad. Haven't been to that mall for a while. There were no more sales at my favourite stores :( It's a good thing too as this means I don't have to spend unecessarily. We went to Jarrod & Rawlins for dinner. Has any of you been to this restaurant before? I read about them in the Star newspaper a few days ago and was looking forward to trying them out. We find that the food was pretty good. My husband ordered the Burger while I got the Double Sausage Sandwich with Fried Onions on wholemeal toast. Here is a pic of what my husband had.

The photo was taken from J&R's website. I didn't have my camera with me so I couldn't take photos of the lip smacking food :D I will definitely go back again to try their other dishes. For your info, Jarrod & Rawlins is located at the Ground Floor of the New Wing (next to Oriental Cravings). They took over Dome's. J&R also has other outlets at Desa Sri Hartamas, AmpWalk Mall and Damansara Height.

Ashley & Her Bike

When we were back in Ipoh a few weeks ago, we bought Ashley her first toddler bicycle (not sure if there is such a term) :D We drove around Ipoh looking for a bicycle shop (not many around) and suddenly, my husband remembered the shop he used to go to when he was a teenager. He used to buy parts to build his own BMX ;) Luckily the shop is still around :D There were so many types of bicycles in that shop and we didn't know which one to get her. So, we asked Ashley to choose for herself but she kept insisting that she wants the little children's motorcycle *rolls eye* Of course, in the end we chose a pink bicycle which comes with a basket. A little girl like her can't be riding a motorcycle :D

Ashley looking at the experts putting together her bike

Do you like my new bike?

Ashley is still learning how to ride her pink bike. She would only use her right leg and push the right pedal down. Then she'll move both the pedals backward until the right side goes up again. Really funny to see her cycling like that. Her bike also comes with a bell and whenever she rings it, she'll say, "putu mayam, putu mayam", just like the Indian man who cycles around our neighbourhood selling putu mayam :D

A Housewarming Party

at this mommy's HUGE house was where we went last Sunday night. It was our first time there and my hubby was very happy that his GPS gadget managed to take us to Annie's house without making any wrong turning :D We had a great time at Annie's and some of my good buddies - Angeline, Peggy & Sasha were there too. There was so much food and we just couldn't stop eating. I also forgot to take any photos of us ladies as well as the delicious food. Well, you can hop over to here for more photos of Annie's beautiful mansion :D
